How do I become
a Dreamland Fan?

Polly [Esther] Styrene

"I have been a Waters fan for about 14 years, ever since I saw Hairspray when I was 16. After that I saw Pink Flamingos and the rest is history. My fave JW film is Female Trouble.

About 7 years ago I had the pleasure of meeting John at a benefit for the ACLU in Baltimore. I finagled my way into the cocktail party meet and greet before his performance. It was GREAT! everyone was in suits and ties and conservative dresses... and here I come in a brown cocktail sheath with copper sequins at the throat, long white gloves, pointy high heeled shoes, lots of black LIQUID EYELINER and a beautiful beehive hairdo (beautifully executed by my dear friend Vivian). As I walked through the crowd, I heard a whisper "now THERES a waters fan!" I waited patiently with my friends for him to arrive and sure enough, there he came through the crowd, like moses parting the sea... *sigh* I was so excited! he started to pass by me, glanced at me, then away, then his head whipped back around. As he looked me up and down approvingly, he said with a smile, "THATS a great look!". I smiled and thanked him graciously. I was able to thank him again after the performance and he signed my copy of Shock Value. What a great night!

In May I got to see him perform again in Harrisburg PA at the local film festival. I obtained free tickets from the guy running the whole shebang (thanks Todd!!!) actually the same night I was performing at a local Rocky Horror Picture Show and asked Todd to invite John to come since it was on the way back down to Baltimore. Todd mentioned it to John who was very interested in going but it turned out it was a bit too late for him since he had an early start the next day. but I was told that he mentioned being invited on a local radio interview the following Monday! tee hee!

I've used the name Polly Esther for a couple years but since there is already a fan who uses the name, you can call me Polly Styrene."

And I'm sure we will, Polly!
