MULTIPLE MANIACS
Dreamland, 1970, 90 minutes
Starring Divine, David Lochary, Mary Vivian Pearce, Mink Stole, Edith Massey

Divine in Multiple Maniacs

Multiple Maniacs is John Waters second feature length film, and his first talkie. Having established the Dreamland cast and crew at this early stage, he employs their talents and personalities to outrageous effect.

Divine is the host and star of the Cavalcade of Perversions, a troupe of freaks and theives who perform for locals, whether they are willing or not.

Multiple Maniacs includes one of the best, and most blasphemous John Waters' scenes. Divine is visited by the Infant of Prague. She is led to a church where Mink Stole gives her a rosary-job - bringing her to orgasm by shoving a rosary up her rectum - right in the church pew! Oh Mary!

Divine in Multiple Maniacs

There is also the infamous and inexplicable rape of Divine by Lobstora, a larger-than-life lobster monster, and a sacrilicious re-enactment of the stations of the cross including a pig-out on Wonder bread and canned tuna!

Mary Vivian Pearce in Multiple Maniacs

In 2016, the film was restored and reissued as part of the prestigious Criterion Collection.
